The main purpose of the role is to design Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) for radio frequency (RF) and mixed signal circuits. The candidate should have considerable experience in designing PCBs using Altium Designer or similar PCB CAD software. This should include schematic capture, layout and CAM processing. It is also necessary to have a good understanding of the particular requirements for laying out RF circuits. Experience in the design of PCBs for switch-mode power supplies, surge protection circuits and microcontroller circuits would be an advantage Additional responsibilities include the development and maintenance of PCB CAD component libraries and the maintenance of electronics components within the companys PLM system. A secondary aspect of the role is to develop prototype electronic circuits in a laboratory environment. For this, some experience in electronic design would be beneficial. Also, some experience in electronic circuit design and associated instrumentation is desirable, as well as the ability to collate test data and write clear and concise reports ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Create and maintain schematic designs using PCB CAD software (Altium and PADS). Design RF and mixed signal PCB layouts both from own schematics and from schematics generated by other design engineers. Create and maintain PCB component libraries within the PCB CAD. Collaborate with mechanical designers to ensure integrity of mechanical and thermal design aspects. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project goals and objectives. Undertake multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, managing own time to deliver according to project milestones. Liaise with PCB manufacturers to clarify design requirements and resolve problems encountered manufacturing bare boards. Liaise with contract electronics manufacturers to clarify design requirements and resolve problems encountered manufacturing PCB assemblies (populated PCBs). All other duties as assigned. SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Verify electronic designs by carrying out tests using laboratory instruments, including oscilloscopes, network analysers, spectrum analysers, signal generators and other instruments. Develop electronic circuits in a laboratory environment. This includes adapting existing circuits for new purposes, finding and verifying alternate components and optimizing component values in new designs. Write clear and concise test and design verification reports based on laboratory measurements. Assist the production department in troubleshooting and training for new electronic circuits in the early production phase. Desired Candidate Profile: ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience ITI or Diploma or Bachelors degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering or relatedfield. 1 or more years full time PCB schematic and layout design experience, preferably with radio frequency circuits. Proficient with EDA software, preferably Altium. Language Skills Ability to read, analyse and interpret common scientific and technical data. Ability to write clear and concise technical reports. Ability to effectively present information to colleagues and vendors Mathematical Skills Good mathematical skills, including an understanding of exponents and logarithms. Understanding of statistical concepts and their application to component tolerance analysis. Other Skills and Abilities: Solid working knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office, particularly Excel and Word. Design, develop and verify electronic circuits including RF, PSU and microcontroller. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret mechanical design. Ability to read and comprehend electrical schematics for lumped and distributed devices. Ability to multi-task, manage own time and work in a fast paced environment. Willing to travel occasionally, domestically or internationally. Excellent interpersonal, communications and negotiation skills.
